When October Ended

When October ended
the warm winds
really felt like Summer
I watched for the sun
to get high in the sky
so that it would
rise & set
on the other side.
All winter
it snuck past
the horizon
just peeking long enough
to thaw the grass
from under
the Golden Apple tree.
This Spring
I was ready
with portable gardens.
Its not summer yet
but I knew
it was all over
when October ended.
I still don’t know
what to say, to you.
Security alerts keep flashing
in some kind
of language
but I feel safest like this.
Playing the heat
to holding the flame. I watched
for the sun
to get high
in the sky as October
